Jamaica Tallawahs hold on in last-over thriller
The evening began swimmingly well for the Tridents, as Jason Holder won the toss, opted to field and saw his bowlers dismantle the Tallawahs top-order, which began with the massive wicket of Chris Gayle in just the second over. The Tridents kept chipping away even after the PowerPlay overs, while Glenn Phillips attempted to hold the crumbling fort for the batting side.

His efforts - 41 off 35 - too came to an end in the 12th over, as the Tallawahs struggled for partnerships that could bail them out of the quagmire they found themselves in. That the best alliance - worth 32 runs - was between Ramaal Lewis and Jade Dernbach for the ninth wicket summed up Tallawahs' innings. Holder, Sandeep Lamichhane and Raymon Reifer picked two wickets each as Tallawahs wound up on just 127 off 20 overs.

In relative terms, Tridents made a comfortable start to the chase, despite losing Alex Hales in the fourth over. Tridents had seen enough in the first innings to perhaps believe that they were only one good partnership away from putting daylight between their opposition and a favourable result. But an Imran Khan and Shamar Springer-inspired bowling attack ran the chasing side ragged, and did enough damage to leave them agonisingly short in chase.

Opener Johnson Charles led the fight and found in Jonathan Carter an ally to push their team out of and beyond an early stumble. They added 31 off 25 balls and looked set to steer their team to a victory, when they suddenly hit a road block. Springer broke the partnership and dismissed both the batsmen in the space of two overs - 13th and 15th - to turn the game on its head from thereon.

The lower middle-order crumbled in the face of intense pressure as Holder, Ashley Nurse and Roshan Primus all fell for single digit scores, taking their side from 78 for 5 to 90 for 8 in the 18th over.

In stepped Raymon Reifer to give the game another turn. He went after Springer in the penultimate over, smashing a six and two fours to drag the equation down from 30 off 12 to 15 off 6. Reifer then shifted the pressure back on the bowling side with a six off the second ball but his dismissal on the fourth delivery took the wind out of their sails. Dwayne Smith tied down Lamichhane to two dots in the end with two full balls outside the offstump to secure a stunning five-run victory.
